We are proud to announce that we earned a $32,500 grant through the Thriving Families, Safer Children: Primary Prevention Grant. A total of $500,000 was granted to nine community-based organizations selected for funding.
Thriving Families, Safer Children is a first-of-its-kind effort of the U.S. Children’s Bureau, Casey Family Programs, the Casey Foundation, and Prevent Child Abuse America. The Thriving Families effort seeks to demonstrate that intentional, coordinated investment in a full continuum of prevention and robust community-based networks of support will promote overall child and family well-being, equity and other positive outcomes for children and families.
The goal of the Thriving Families, Safer Children initiative in Arizona is to specifically address the disparities faced by African Americans in the child protection system by engaging those with lived expertise in the design of strategies to prevent entry into out-of-home care, as well as help connect child protection involved families to supports to promote reunification.
With this grant, Prevent Child Abuse Arizona will partner with Our Sister Our Brother, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting and preserving a family’s right to be together, to create a Lived Experience Fellowship. This Fellowship will provide learning, networking, and leadership development opportunities for African American individuals with lived experience of the child protection system to support them to lead the Thriving Families, Safer Children movement in Arizona.
Together, we can create a world where children and families have access to the resources they need, regardless of where they live.
