More than 240 attendees came together for the Hope Horizons: Supporting Arizona Families in Recovery Statewide Institute September 8 & 9 for two days filled with learning, connection, and inspiration. The Institute brought together local and national experts dedicated to supporting moms, dads, babies, and families as they navigate recovery and wellness. This event was funded by AHCCCS and created in partnership with Kate Dobler, State Opioid Treatment Authority (SOTA), Women’s Services Network Coordinator. The institute was fueled by the desire to create community and mindset shifts in how we see and care for families. By offering support to parents with substance use disorders while eliminating stigma, we can encourage help-seeking and maximize the likelihood of positive outcomes.
This year’s event provided participants with tools, research, and fresh perspectives, as well as opportunities to form new partnerships. Sessions and speakers encouraged attendees to reflect deeply on how we do this work and to bridge the gap between theory and practice. As one participant shared, “The content was practical, relevant, and immediately applicable to my work.”
A highlight of the Institute was the Arizona premiere of the documentary Our American Family, a powerful story that sparked meaningful discussion about the realities of substance use disorder and family recovery.
The impact of the Institute was felt across disciplines and communities. Participants left with not only resources and strategies, but also a renewed sense of purpose:
“I am able to bring back insightful information to my team so we can reevaluate the services we are providing to our clients and acknowledge what families are truly needing for themselves.”
“I acquired so many more resources, and more importantly, a refreshed outlook on how important our jobs are as professionals – to go out there, do our best, and incorporate all the knowledge gained.”
“I will use this to better understand and empathize with the families I come into contact with in child abuse and neglect investigations.”
Together, we are advancing Arizona’s collective commitment to supporting families on their journey toward recovery and wellness. Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared your expertise, and continue this vital work.
